He pulls his legs up and under him, partially leaning against Rich but keeping the box steady in his lap. It was like an infant with their blanket, he would simply fall apart without it. As Rich opens the book, Teddy leans his head on his shoulder.
Rich opened the book and the binding crinkled because of years of being unread. He began to read out loud to Teddy. He was doing so not for the story. He hoped that at least the sound of his voice consistently would calm Teddy down enough. He didn’t want him to break down again when they were called back to what used to be the cafe.
